The Heartbeat Journal Blurb

The Heartbeat Journal by Ellen Cummins

When fate slams two suffering souls together, can love help heal them?

Everly Afton, a romance novelist, is haunted by the memory and spirit of her brother Evan, whose suicide she blames on her father. Her broken home leaves her craving a healthy love. At twenty-seven she thought she’d be married with a family, but her boyfriend Jake’s cheating ways has her rethinking her future.

After they break up, she visits the garden center for some flower therapy and is approached by Ben Colt, who strikes up a conversation about the hummingbird that fluttered in front of her face, and speaks of myths and angels. Everything about him is delicious, from his scent to his muscular body to his expressive brown eyes.

When Everly discovers she’s being stalked, she’s surprised when Ben is the detective assigned to her case. He’s determined to see to her safety. But he has a painful secret of his own—a powerful revelation that leaves him vulnerable and her willing to soothe him in any way possible.

Everly’s journal, a link to all things spiritual, helps to bring her universe together with his, and they collide in a storm of danger, passion, and truths that could change a person’s life forever.

My first author’s fair!

Since this writing journey began, I’ve fantasized what my own book signing might look like. Would I be sitting at the table with my hands folded in my lap with nobody in line? I’ve had nightmares prettier!

It’s been fun gathering goodies to give away for this event, and placing a hundred stickers with website links onto copies of my book covers was tedious…but these are only a few of the daunting tasks we writers must do to promote ourselves. I’ve sent numerous emails to local publications and passed out dozens of business cards, only to receive one tiny mention in the Modesto Bee…but trust me, I was ECSTATIC to have that! Building a readership is not easy. To me, each and every little thing I do is worth while—even if I only gain one reader at a time! That is one more person to share my dreams with.

On September 20th, the Stanislaus County Library is having its annual local author’s fair and I’m so excited to be a part of it! Our community novel Ashes in a Teardrop gets its own table, and I get to hop back and forth from theirs to my own! It’s also Farmer’s Market Saturday, so come out and meet our local authors and get some valley-fresh produce. Hope to see you there!

Excerpt from The Heartbeat Journal

Nestled in her hotel robe and panties, Everly felt safer than she’d ever felt in her life. Under the thick blanket on the sofa, she watched Ben move to the coffee pot and then to the other side of the room and she traced the curve of his back under his white t-shirt with her eyes, carefully studying the slope of his rear as he walked by. There was something so criminal about his stride, the scent of his fresh shower drifting around her…his confidence and his distress all at once. A new line had formed on his forehead since she’d seen him last and it made her think that maybe he cared about her wellbeing way more than she thought. He drifted into the easy chair across from her like a deity from another place. A land where perfect skin and hair was the norm. A planet where the men all smelled like expensive cologne.

Don’t let the flowers fool you!

Hello and welcome to my first website! I am the author of fantasy fiction and sexy love stories, ranging from the terrifying to tantalizing! Be patient with me while I work out the bugs…technology isn’t my thing but I’m learning. I chose the flowers as my header because I’m hopelessly in love with pink, but my stories tend to delve deeply into dark worlds. No worries though, a happily-ever-after is the only way out for me! My first story Lizbeth is a simply written urban fantasy about an ordinary girl with extraordinary gifts, and I fought hard for her to see the light of day inside the minds of others. Keith Publications gave Addison a face and now others can experience her amazing and mind-blowing journey out of the darkness into another land that seems to be made just for her, but beneath its Technicolor landscape lurks something with a very black heart.

My sexiest book yet, The Heartbeat Journal, will be released with Beachwalk Press this November, as well as two more paranormal fantasies coming soon with KP. Thanks for checking in and please stay tuned. This is for you. Without your love, support, and interest, my characters’ magic would fade out into cyber-space oblivion, taking all of their secrets with them.
